Canadian national daily The Globe and Mail has been named the Official National Newspaper by the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The Globe and Mail, including its Web site www.globeandmail.com, will have exclusive rights in the national newspaper publisher category for the 2010 Winter Games. The partnership also provides The Globe and Mail with sponsorship rights for the Canadian Olympic Team for the Beijing 2008, Vancouver 2010 and London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Globe and Mail will provide VANOC with enhanced national advertising abilities through value-in-kind allocation of print and online features related to the 2010 Winter Games. Phillip Crawley, The Globe and Mail's publisher and CEO, says, "We look forward to the opportunity these Games present for us to provide Canadians with complete and comprehensive coverage. The Globe has already enhanced its daily edition with a B.C. section and additional customized feature sections, and we continue to add to our resources in our Vancouver bureau." "As the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games draw nearer, the international spotlight is turning to Canada, and The Globe's national reach through advertising and promotion will help us generate excitement about the Games across the country," says John Furlong, VANOC's CEO.
