The latest Air Miles promotion, which offers free movies, reminds collectors that they can take in a flick - and it doesn’t have to be at 36,000 feet - when redeeming their reward miles. “Watching a movie on a plane is a great way to pass the time, but Air Miles is promoting the many ways to use your reward miles, and movies, whether at the theatre or at home, are a classic example of how to enjoy membership,” says Neil Everett, chief marketing officer, Air Miles Reward Program. To receive their Free Movie Escape instant reward, collectors are invited to register at www.airmilesfreemovie.ca, use three different coupons from the Air Miles Free Movie Escape coupon booklet - available online and at participating retailers - then choose the movie-themed reward of their choice: a Cineplex single admission, a Blockbuster New Release and Favourites movie rental, an Empire Theatres single admission, or 65 Air Miles reward miles. The promotion runs throughout the month of May. “By using the valuable bonus coupons, our Collectors also earn additional reward miles that can be redeemed for more than 800 different rewards following the promotion, including two-for-one movie passes for as little as 25 Air Miles reward miles,” says Everett. The promotion, which was developed in-house, is supported through point-of-sale materials at participating sponsor locations, the airmilesfreemovie.ca micro site, and a collector mailing. Public relations is being managed by Pilot PMR. A collector survey, which revealed time is a major factor for why people don’t get out to the movies as much as they’d like, also supports the initiative. According to the national Air Miles Collector survey, escaping to the movies has never been more difficult as time-starved Canadians struggle to find the opportunity to take in the latest flick at their local cinema. A total 47% of those surveyed admitted it’s been almost a year since going out to see a movie and more than 50% within that group can’t remember the last time they took in a movie at a theatre. In addition, 56% missed seeing a movie on the big screen because they were too busy; 28% don’t remember the last time they went to the movies; and 23% missed a movie because it left the theatre before they had the chance to see it.
