Home Depot Draws Awareness to its Garden Centre by Distributing Recyclable Lawn Bags
by Gail Chiasson
May 12, 2008
The Home Depot has initiated a spring clean-up campaign in some southwestern Ontario communities this month by issuing free recyclable lawn bags.

The bags are being personally delivered by The Home Depot associates driving door-to-door in eco-friendly Home Depot-branded Smart Cars. Deliveries are being made in Newmarket, Maple, Hamilton, Brantford, Brampton and some parts of Toronto.

Just in time for gardening season, aim of the program is to help homeowners focus on cleaning the debris that Winter has left behind, and in doing so, make them aware of Home Depots gardening centres's products and services.

“As a gardening expert, The Home Depot provides resources for community residents to start preparing beautiful lawns and gardens,” says Annette Verschuren, president of The Home Depot Canada. “As an environmental leader in the home improvement retail industry, we wanted to distribute 100% recyclable leaf bags in an environmentally responsible way.”

The environment is a key focus for the home improvement retailer who not only offers over 50 natural alternatives to traditional pesticides, but also offers over 1,500 Eco Options products across various categories in its 166 stores in Canada.

The Home Depot’s leaf bags hold 30 gallons and measure 16" x 12" x 35". They are moisture resistant, bio degradable and 2-ply paper construction. Each bag contains an offer of $10 off a purchase of $50 or more at The Home Depot, valid until June 15/08.
