WideSail Offers New Error Correction Technology for Digital Communications Systems
by Gail Chiasson
May 12, 2008
Montreal-based WideSail Technologies, a developer of a new error correction technology for digital communications systems, will begin to commercialize its product after a recent infusion of venture capital financing from MSBi.

Founded in 2007, WideSail is a spin-off from McGill University - which owns the product patents - and was founded by two McGill professors Warren Gross and Shie Mannor, and Gord Harling, president and CEO. The company develops semiconductor products and intellectual property for very high performance error correction, and initially will license its designs to developers of integrated circuits for communications applications such as WiFi, WiMAX, 10 Gb Ethernet, Direct Video Broadcast and 4G telephony.

"WideSail will develop and demonstrate error correcting circuit designs based on this technology," says Harling. "At the conclusion of this phase WideSail will be prepared to launch a range of high performance products to customers in various markets. The technology has a wide range of uses for digital communications systems, including out-of-home digital networks."

WideSail's products provide error correction performance at very high speeds with much lower power than competing technologies.

"It outperforms state-of-the-art error correction techniques," says Harling.
