In response to the increasing demand for social media expertise among North American marketers, Toronto-based Veritas Communications has opened a US arm of its social media division, com.motion in Boulder, Colorado. The com.motion USA team is led by Darren Kelly, a social media veteran whose experience includes helping some of the largest global brands, among them MicroSoft, Pfizer, and Chrysler, to develop their social media strategies. Kelly comes to com.motion USA from Collective Intellect, an information filter and analytics organization in the social and digital media space. He has also worked in senior positions at Netcracker Technology, and at Level 3 Communications, a major voice and data systems provider. He earlier was a consultant at Bain & Company and worked in Toronto at Nesbitt Burns.“Darren’s strong business background combined with his expertise and currency in the social and digital media space will ensure that com.motion gains a strong foothold in the US market,” says Beverley Hammond, Veritas president. While Kelly will focus on the US business and brands, com.motion’s Canadian clients will also benefit from his strategic thinking and social media expertise. “Unlike traditional marketing disciplines, social media knows no boundaries,” Hammond says. “Having a US com.motion office not only allows us to tap into the tremendous opportunity that exists in that market but also to inspire the best social media campaigns for our clients no matter where they are.” com.motion helps brands and organizations to amplify their online message through influencer relations, social networking and search engine marketing. It monitors online conversations about a product, service or issue, identifies the right strategy for word-of-mouth and online PR, and activates that strategy through an arsenal of strategically deployed social media tools.
