One Man and a Desert Marathon to Benefit NABS

Stefan Danis, CEO of Mandrake and NEXCareer, Toronto, is asking Canadians to pledge their support for him as he tackles the Gobi March to raise $25,000 for the National Advertising Benevolent Society, which, with its Quebec arm, Benevolent d’entraide aux communicateurs, is the only charitable organization in Canada that provides assistance to communication industry professionals.

Further, every $100 in donation to Danis will be returned in the form of gift vouchers for NEXCareer services, a career management and outplacement services company, to either pass on to someone in a career transition situation or to use themselves in the future. NEXCareer provides support and expertise in the areas of: career management, outplacement, career transition and coaching.

“I want to support an industry that is often the first in line for cost cutting and do so in a way that has the potential to give back more than the monetary value of a pledge,” says Danis. “More so than in other poor economic times, I see panic, and some hopelessness, in the communication industry. which frequently spills over and affects family lives.”

To support Danis on his mission and make a pledge online, go to www.gobi4NABS.com where details of the Career Transition Offer are posted. Services can be gifted to someone recently downsized and who was not able to access outplacement coverage in any industry sector. Services can also go to a family member or friend in the same situation.

“The hope is to deliver hundreds of workshops to assist the job seekers who could use a lift in their job search strategy and tactics,” says Danis.

The Gobi March is the largest international sporting event in Western China, with over 35 countries involved and covering 250 km in 6 days in extreme heat and wind. It is part of the '4 Deserts' series which is on Time magazine’s Top 10 Endurance Competitions list.

There will be about 200 competitors starting the race on June 14/09, among whom many will not finish the race. Full details can be seen at www.4deserts.com/gobimarch/.
